Excel Driving SchoolFAQ's

How do I know if Excel Driving School is licensed by California's DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
While we do include Excel Driving School's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Excel Driving School is licensed by the State of California.  We recommend that you either contact Excel Driving School directly or possibly the California DMV to find out if Excel Driving School is a certified driver training school.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in California?
Each state has its own rules regarding behind-the-wheel training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised behind-the-wheel training as a substitute for attending a driver training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the California DMV to find out for sure.
Do I need to tell Excel Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift car? I don't know how to drive a stick-shift automobile.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a stick-shift OR and automatic-shift vehicle!  We recommend that you ask Excel Driving School if you can complete your behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle before you enroll in their driver training course.
I live in a very remote area, where there are mountains and a lot of unpaved roads. Do you know if Excel Driving School offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as Excel Driving School will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
I'm turning 14 in a few months. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in California after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no.  Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit.  Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the California DMV office or a California-certified driving school such as Excel Driving School to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Will I be required to register for both a drivers education classroom or online course and a behind-the-wheel training course in San Francisco California?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now require new teen-aged drivers to sign up for both a drivers education course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.
I have to take a defensive driving course in San Francisco California. Can I meet this requirement by registering with Excel Driving School?
Yes, Excel Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in San Francisco California.  You will need to contact Excel Driving School directly to get more information on the types of courses they offer and when to register for a class.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is hands-on driver training required in California in order to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle?
Absolutely.  All new drivers in California must enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course before they can get a license to independently drive a motor vehicle.
Will California allow me to sign up to take a behind-the-wheel training course before I actually receive my learner's permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you receive your learner's permit before you register with a driver training course.
