A/M Driving SchoolFAQ's
Is A/M Driving School an approved driving school in California?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer hands-on driving courses in California. We highly recommend that you contact A/M Driving School directly or the California DMV to find out for sure if A/M Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of California.
Do you know if I can complete my behind-the-wheel training with my mother or father instead of attending a driving school like A/M Driving School?
Some states allow teen-agers to do their driver training with their parents instead of attending a professional driving school. We recommend that you contact the California DMV or A/M Driving School directly to find out if California allows parent-taught behind-the-wheel training.
What if I don't know how to operate a vehicle with a manual-shift? Does A/M Driving School have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a manual-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle! However, if you have a preference as to a manual or an automatic, you probably should call A/M Driving School to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.
What happens to those of us who live in a non-urban area? Will A/M Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driving school like A/M Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
I just turned 14 years old. Can I apply for my learner's permit in California?
Probably not. The minimum age requirement for holding a learners permit in most states is 15 1/2. You should contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training institute such as A/M Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in California.
Will I be required to enroll in both a drivers education classroom or online course and a driver training course in San Francisco California?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now mandate new teen-aged drivers to register for both a drivers education course as well as a behind-the-wheel training course.
California's DMV has told me that I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course. Do you know if A/M Driving School offers this course or not?
A/M Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that California requires all new teen-aged drivers to take. For more information about the courses A/M Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact A/M Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to sign up to take both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course. You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to satisfy in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is hands-on driver training required in California in order to be licensed to drive a car?
Absolutely. All new drivers in California must enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course before they can be issued a license to independently drive a motor vehicle.
Will California allow me to enroll in a driver training course before I actually receive my instruction permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out. However, most states require that you receive your instruction permit before you enroll in a behind-the-wheel training course.
