AARPFAQ's

Since AARP is listed on your website, does this mean they are approved by the Alaska DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the Alaska DMV.  You may want to call AARP directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
I've been told that either of my parents can monitor my behind-the-wheel training, so I don't have to attend a Juneau Alaska driving school like AARP to fulfill my behind-the-wheel training requirement. Do you know if that's true or not?
You will need to contact the Alaska DMV or a state-approved driving school like AARP to find out.  Some states do allow parent-taught driving, but many states do not.
Do you know if AARP will let me take my driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a stick-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a stick OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact AARP and see if they can accommodate you before signing up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.
I live in a very remote area, where there are mountains and a lot of unpaved roads. Do you know if AARP offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in urban areas?
Since you live in a remote area, a local driving school such as AARP will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
If I'm 14, can I get an instruction permit to drive in Alaska?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get a learner's permit.  We recommend that you contact the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as AARP to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Alaska.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Juneau Alaska or do I also have to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the Alaska's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
Alaska law says that I must successfully complete a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get licensed to drive in Juneau Alaska. Is this something that AARP can help me with?
Yes, AARP offers the Alaska-approved driver training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact AARP directly.
I live in Juneau Alaska. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Alaska driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Alaska, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  AARP may offer courses which would fulfill the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is a driver training course a prerequisite in Juneau Alaska for me to get a drivers license?
The law in Alaska requires that all drivers complete a behind-the-wheel training course as part of their driver education.  You should contact AARP directly to find out about the types of courses they offer.
Is it possible to enroll in a Alaska-approved driver training course before I obtain my Alaska instruction permit?
