I heard that parents can fill the role of driving instructor in California, so taking a San Francisco driver training course like the one AA Driving School offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the California DMV or a licensed driving school like AA Driving School and ask them. While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.

The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will AA Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like AA Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and other types of bumpy terrain. Are 14-year-olds permitted to obtain a instruction permit in California?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to receive an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½. You will need to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving instruction company like AA Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in California.
Can I take AA Driving School's driver training course before taking a San Francisco California defensive driving classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws say. However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course. We recommend that you contact AA Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
