Y & I HelperFAQ's
Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-certified by the New York DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in New York?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently accredited to offer driving training courses in New York. We suggest you contact the New York DMV to make sure a particular driving school is licensed before you sign up to take their driving course.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in. There are some states which allow you to complete your behind-the-wheel training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school. However many states require that new drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course. We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
I have no clue how to drive a manual-shift vehicle. What happens if Y & I Helper makes me train on a stick-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....manual OR automatic! If you prefer to do your hands-on driver training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Y & I Helper and let them know before you enroll in their behind-the-wheel training course. That way you'll know for sure whether Y & I Helper will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
Since I live way out in a remote location where driving on dirt roads and rugged terrain is the norm, will Y & I Helper be able to teach me how to drive in a non-urban environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in the country, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Y & I Helper will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain. We recommend that you contact Y & I Helper directly to find out exactly what they offer.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in New York?
Possibly. However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get an instruction permit. We recommend that you contact the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school such as Y & I Helper to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in New York.
