Arizona Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

  • Minimum Age for Learner Permit 15 years, 6 months
  • Instruction Permit Holding Period You must have held your instruction permit for at least six (6) months in good standing before applying for a graduated driver's license
  • Minimum amount of supervised driving 30 hours, 10 of which must be at night
  • Minimum Age for Driver License 16 years for a graduated driver's license
  • Road Test Yes
  • Unsupervised driving rules With an instruction permit, you must always have a licensed driver, 21 years of age or older, seated next to you in the front passenger seat actively supervising you while you drive. For the first six (6) months after receiving your graduated driver's license, you may not drive unsupervised between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am unless you are commuting to your job, a school-sponsored activity, a sanctioned religious activity, or because of a family emergency
  • Passenger rules For the first six (6) months after receiving your graduated driver's license, you may drive with only one (1) non-family minor passenger in the vehicle unless you are accompanied by a parent or guardian who is holds a valid Arizona driver's license (Class A, B, C, or D).
  • Other A driver education instructor may authorize a 15-year-old driver education student to drive only while supervised by the authorizing instructor.
